Electrostatics & Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS)
In industrial environments, it is important to reduce the risk of electrostatic charges, especially when using materials that are flammable or explosive. To avoid ignition sources, the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS) provide a comprehensive set of regulations.

What are the Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS)?
The Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances are guidelines published by the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA - Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin) in Germany. They set out the specific requirements of the Hazardous Substances Ordinance and provide guidance for companies in practice. The aim of the TRGS is to protect the health and safety of employees, prevent accidents and protect the environment.

TRGS 727 - Avoidance of Ignition Hazards due to Electrostatic Charges
These guidelines include:
- For the transport of bulk goods or hazardous substances, hoses should be used that are conductive or antistatic so that electrostatic charges are prevented or dissipated in a controlled manner. The hoses should also be labelled so that their properties are recognisable to everyone.
- Hoses that transport flammable or conductive liquids must be earthed.
- The insulation of certain sections must also be prevented, as this prevents the dissipation of the charge.
- When using couplings or other connectors, it must be ensured that these are also conductive. This is the only way to guarantee continuous earthing. High flow velocities can also lead to electrostatic charging or even increase it. It is therefore important to control the flow velocity and keep it within a safe range.
- Controlling the temperature is also a relevant measure to avoid ignition hazards.
- In addition, it is important that the hoses and their connections are regularly checked and inspected.
